What is an overheating location sticker?
Overheating location sticker is a flexible sticker like insulating tape, which irreversibly changes colour from white to black after overheating occurs.
Why and how
to use it?
The sticker should be placed on a visible surface of equipment: reductors, bearings, motors, contact connections, etc. Colour change indicates that something wrong happened, for example:
Oxidation of contacts
Breakdown of bearing
and so on
Detection of such defects allows to take the necessary precautions before defense activation, emergency stop, failure of equipment or other malfunction occur.
Where to place
Select equipment, malfunction or failure of which leads to unfavourable consequences: power outage, shutdown of a process, breakdown of apparatus and other.
Usually these are:
Electric contacts and contact connections that supply crucial equipment
Shut-off valve drives, solenoid valves
Electric drives of conveyors, production lines and reactors
Pumps of different types
Heaters and radiators
Positioning and control systems' electric motors
Gearboxes and gears
Determine the MAX working temperature
Consult a reference data or place L-Mark Test sticker with several indication dots on different activation temperatures.
Wait until the equipment goes through various work cycles. The indication dots will reveal what MAX temperature was reached.
Add 10-20ºС to MAX temperature and place appropriate sticker. Its size must make it clearly visible.
As a result, all crucial equipment should be fitted with white marks.
Regularly check equipment and take a notice of the sticker.
Line staff and managers should all learn the rule:
White colour - no overheating.
Everything works normally.
Black colour - something went wrong!
Look for cause!
Detect and repair the cause of overheating, place a new sticker and continue working.
If the cause wasn't found place L Mark-Test sticker and monitor the highest temperature. The higher the temperatures are the faster the malfunction must be repaired.
Purchase a diagnostic test kit and keep it available. It will allow fast detection of overheating if something is wrong with the equipment (new unexpectable noise, vibration, odor, etc.)
